Sarah and Alasdair came to us shortly after moving into a new-build duplex in Walthamstow. While the property offered excellent energy efficiency and a practical layout, the interiors felt white, anonymous and lacking in personality. They wanted a home that reflected them, while remaining true to their sustainable values.

Rather than ripping out perfectly good fittings, we took a layered approach, building on what was already there and introducing colour, texture, bespoke joinery, and carefully considered lighting to create warmth, character and depth. We also introduced architectural detailing, including decorative mouldings around door openings, niches and across the double-height staircase wall, adding visual interest and character to the transitional spaces that connect the home.

Inspired by the couple's love of nature, craftsmanship and collected pieces, the palette draws on earthy terracottas, soft greens and tactile natural materials to create a calm and welcoming backdrop. Carefully planned joinery and flexible living zones allow the spaces to adapt effortlessly, whether working from home, unwinding at the end of the day or entertaining family and friends - something that was important to them from the outset.
